Bye bye steaming, Hello Modded iPod

Warning

Autistic Rant Ahead!

I am currently using an Apple iPod Classic 5th Gen, with the following specifications:

  • 256GB SSD
  • Extended 2000mAh Battery
  • Skeleton Clear Front Face

Pretty snazzy right? I can hold around 420~ approx. hours of music with that storage space. With an approximate 6,300 tracks, and 560 albums.

Sadly, I was not able to use the stock firmware shipped with iPods by Apple, I have to use Rockbox as Apple's firmware is a bit iffy with FLACs and WAVs. But, I do get the added bonus of custom themes!

I am quite conflicted over which theme I use at any given time:

All three are wonderful, and are exactly what I love using, however they have to be my top 3!

Powering the iPod

iPod 5G Crusher ANC 2 iPod + Headphones
Energy taken from the power bank per full charge ~8.5Wh ~4.4Wh (Estimate) ~12.9Wh
Full charges per power bank 8 to 9 16-17 5-6 of each
Listening time per charge ~35-45 hrs ~45-50 hrs (ANC on), ~55-60 hrs (ANC off) iPod runs out first
Listening time per power bank charge ~30-38 hrs ~750-850 hrs ~230-270 hrs

Along with my headphones (SkullCandy Crusher ANC 2) and my iPod, per full 25,000mAh UGREEN power bank, I can reach around ~230-270 hours.

Note

Crusher ANC 2 headphones have the "Crusher" sensory bass tool, with can also affect how many hours they can play music for. E.g. With the feature at max, you'd be looking at around 35-45 hours, or with it off, 55-60 hours.

Therefore with this set up I would only have to charge the iPod every 40-ish ours, and the headphones every 50-ish hours.

You can find a modded iPod on ebay for a pretty reasonable price (Around £200-350), or you can mod one yourself! For example, https://eoe.works/ has parts, and fully modded iPods.
